The New Lexicon offers musicologists and artists a sustained framework in which to deepen the conceptual, methodological, artistic, and public dimensions of their practices. Over several months, participants can move beyond the compressed exchange of a single conference or workshop and develop questions through presentation, response, revision, and public articulation.
The programme provides an opportunity to clarify the concepts and cultural assumptions implicit in a project; advance artistic, scholarly, curatorial, and hybrid research through substantive feedback; develop more precise languages for presenting and contextualizing work; test propositions within an international research community; and encounter methods, histories, and positions beyond one’s usual field of reference.
Participants can situate their practices within philosophical, historical, technological, institutional, economic, and political debates. This does not displace musical specificity; it clarifies how their work participates in, resists, or transforms surrounding conditions.
The residency may generate new artistic directions, research questions, presentation formats, and intellectual relationships. It creates a basis for future collaborations, publications, performances, lectures, exhibitions, and research projects beyond the programme’s formal duration. Its value lies not in delivering a single model of success, but in enabling participants to formulate stronger questions, make more accountable decisions, and communicate the significance of their work with greater precision.
